Lunch at West Side Cafe

My wife and I decided to go out for lunch the other day. We went to one of Fort Worth’s icons, West Side Café located at 7950 Camp Bowie W Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76116. It was the first time that we have been to a dine-in restaurant, since the state has started to slowly open the economy back up.

They did a great job of making us feel welcome and safe. The entire staff were wearing masks and gloves. We were met at the front door by one of the managers that took our information and asked us to wait in our car, until they had an open table. He asked where we were parked and he told us, that he would come and get us, as soon ae our table was ready.

We only had to wait about five minutes. Once we were inside the hostess offered us hand sanitizer, before she showed us to our table. They have done a good job with social distancing, by blocking off every other booth. They have blocked off the middle section and there is no sitting at the counter, they have removed the seats on all of the stools. The back room is still open.

If you have ever been to West Side, you can understand it was kind of a surreal experience with the restaurant only allowed to operate at twenty-five present of capacity. The place is always packed, especially if you have ever been there on a Sunday after church.

The tables have been cleared of all the condiments, jelly, butter, salt and pepper etc. We shared one paper to go menu, which we took home with us. When one party would leave, they would immediately wipe down the table and booth and they swept the floor around the booth.

My wife and I always have a hard time deciding on what to order, but, more times than not, (please don’t judge) if we are there for lunch or dinner, we both end up getting the liver and onions. As we did this time. West Side Café is one of the few places in town that has really good liver and onions.

After two months of not being able to go out and eat, it was a welcome change. It is nice to be able to help support a family run business.

Whether you go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner, their down home country cooking and service is always fantastic.
